Patricky Freire's fight at Bellator 249 is canceled with the event in progress

It's not just football that is a box of surprises. MMA too and the person who discovered this firsthand was Patricky Freire. The athlete, who was scheduled to fight Jeleel Willis, at Bellator 249, held this Thursday (15), in Las Vegas, USA, was prevented from fighting with the event in progress, due to labyrinthitis.

The news was released at the end of the preliminary card and shows that the organization's doctor did not authorize the Brazilian to continue on the show. However, Bellator spoke out and informed that it will financially compensate both Patricky and Willis for the setback.

With the loss of one fight, the fight between heavyweights (120,2kg) Steve Mowry and Shawn Teed, which closed the preliminary card, became part of the main card.

At 34 years old, Patricky Freire, who has not played for Bellator since February 2019, was excited about the possibility of fighting again for the lightweight belt (70,3kg). Currently, the category champion is Patrício, his brother, but he guaranteed that he would give up the title if Patricky became the challenger.

In his last appearance in MMA, Pitbull was defeated by Tofiq Musayev, in the final of the Rizin Lightweight Grand Prix, held in December 2019. The setback interrupted a streak of seven consecutive victories, which began in 2017 and included the important names of Ben henderson, Josh thomson and Tatsuya Kawajiri.
