Since Fabricio Werdum chose not to renew his contract with the UFC and was 'free on the market', speculation began about the Brazilian's possible deal with Bellator, where he could stage a long-awaited rematch against the legendary Fedor Emelianenko. Analyzing a possible agreement with the gaucho, the company's president, Scott Coker, did not rule out a superfight, but made it clear that the decision depends exclusively on the Russian.

“Fedor is 50% in favor (of the fight). It's not what Fabrício would like it to be, but we'll continue talking to Fedor and see if he wants to do it. If Fedor wants, we will definitely promote it, because this could be the fight in Moscow (Russia) or elsewhere in one of his last two appearances”, said the agent, in an interview with 'MMA Junkie'.

Werdum and Emelianenko had a historic fight for the Brazilian in June 2010, when the Gaucho shocked the world and surprised the legendary Russian with a submission in the first round, in Strikeforce. At the time, 'Vai Cavalo' had become the second fighter in history to beat Fedor, who, even today, is considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight of all time.

Since leaving the UFC in July this year, Fabrício has never hidden his desire to repeat the duel from more than ten years ago. The Brazilian, however, admits to listening to proposals from other companies, such as ONE FC, which has Brandon Vera as champion in its category. The last one was also beaten by the gaucho, in 2008, and the extra motivation would be the possibility of sporting a new belt on his shelf.

Former Ultimate champion, Fabrício, now 43 years old, has 34 appearances as a professional in MMA. 'Vai Cavalo' has 24 wins, nine defeats and one draw. In his last commitment, Werdum defeated Alexander Gustafson with a quick finish, in the Swede's heavyweight debut.

Fedor, 44, has not performed since December last year, when he defeated the former UFC light heavyweight (up to 93kg) champion, Quinton jackson. The Russian won 39 victories in 46 challenges in mixed martial arts.
