Belfort stated that a duel against the former light heavyweight champion Forrest griffin was introduced to the North American, who refused the duel at UFC 155, in December. With Forrest's refusal by the Brazilian, Phil Davis was chosen for combat.
“I met with Forrest and he told me that they offered him a list of six names and mine was the first. He said he would face any of them but me. It's good to have this kind of recognition. I’m here to serve the company,” said Belfort. The Brazilian also made a point of highlighting that despite competing for the light heavyweight belt, his category is still middleweight.
“My weight, my category, is middleweight. I'm adapted. But I don't have much time left in my career and I want to have big challenges, whatever the weight. I think I can fight great fights and I won’t run from anyone, I’ll always be ready”, added Belfort.
