As soon as Chael Sonnen was announced as an opponent of Jon Jones in the light heavyweight title fight, the North American Dan Henderson (remember here) criticized the choice of the challenger for the light heavyweight belt. Soon after, Sonnen responded to the questions stating that he had been the only fighter to seek the duel against Jones. But, despite the small discussion in the press, the athletes, who are teammates, got back on good terms. The biggest proof of this is that Sonnen called on Hendo to be an assistant coach on TUF 17 against Jones' team.
“We are calm and always have been. You have to understand, what Dan and I have is like the army. Our gym has an order, and Dan is one of the trainers. He is above me. I don't respond to Dan, and if Dan wants to say something, it will be like this. He has helped me throughout my career, and he will help me with this,” said Sonnen.
In addition to Henderson, Brazilian Vinny Magalhães, who trained Sonnen's jiu-jitsu for the rematch against Anderson Silva, will also be a technical assistant on the reality show.
