The knockout defeat suffered by Israel adesanya, UFC 253definitely takes away the peace of mind Paulo borrachinha. The Brazilian, who has already expressed his desire to have a rematch with the middleweight champion (83,9kg), also justified by the controversial post-fight 'assault', does not forget what happened in the pre-fight.

On his official YouTube channel, the Minas Gerais native revealed that he had some problems and that this discomfort interfered with his performance in the Octagon.

“Obviously, I was quite sad about the result. I had a lot of confidence in victory, I was well trained, but there's nothing I can do. It happened. What I can do is motivate myself to perform better in the next fight. Some things happened and I'm not going to mention what it was, I don't want it to sound like an excuse. My team and the UFC people know, because I called them and asked for help, but it wasn't enough. My training was hard, but not the hardest, it was exhausting, but not the most exhausting. I trained a lot the day before and had problems during the hours and during the fight. The people who support and like me know that the athlete who appeared was not the same one who always fought. There was something different, a physical problem, but no matter what I say, the UFC doctor, Dana or Adesanya say it,” said Borrachinha.

Despite the heavy outcome, Borrachinha assured that he will return better, he recalled that he did this when he participated in TUF Brasil and was eliminated from the program, and warned that his critics' days are numbered. Confident, the Brazilian stated that he will not just be UFC middleweight champion.

“I'm motivated. What matters is what you do with the result, not what the result means. I'm the type of person and athlete who is motivated by people's distrust. Haters motivate me! I have more motivation when there is disbelief about my ability, than when everyone is believing, because then I enter the comfort zone and don't have that spark. The defeat will serve as fuel and I'm already training for the next fight. I'm in the UFC to make a difference. I had some falls in my career, one of them was on TUF Brasil. That gave me strength, because many said I was worthless, but I always knew my potential. I promised I would prove it and the result was ten consecutive victories. I have that same feeling now, of proving that I can be champion not only in this, but in other UFC categories. I say this without fear of sounding arrogant. It’s just confidence in the work I do and in my abilities”, he concluded.

Paulo borrachinha is willing to get back on the path to victory. The Brazilian is already training and constantly informs that he wants to fight more often, as he has only had two fights in the last two years. One of those interested in facing him is Derek Brunson, seventh in the middleweight rankings.
