Chael Sonnen suggests 'retirement fight' between Donald Cerrone and Diego Sanchez

Commentator supports the veterans' poor phase and understands that a confrontation between the two could be attractive to fans

Responsible for historic battles inside the octagon, veterans Donald Cerrone e Diego Sanchez They are definitely not experiencing the best moment in their careers. With each new defeat, the pressure increases for fighters to hang up their gloves. Observing the situation, the former fighter and now commentator, Chael Sonnen, sought a viable alternative for North Americans.

“Someone messaged me with an interesting idea. A fight between Donald Cerrone e Diego Sanchez. The loser retires. Whoever wins, retires,” wrote Sonnen.

Both Cerrone and Sanchez have already experienced their moments of glory inside the octagon. Both have already competed for the organization's lightweight title (up to 70,3kg). Diego, in 2009 and Cerrone, in 2015.

Years have passed and the scenario now is not favorable. At 37 years old, suffering from the wear and tear of years of activity, the 'Cowboy' has had a run of five performances without a win. In his last commitment, in September, he ended up drawing with Niko Price.

Winner of the first edition of TUF (The Ultimate Fighter), in 2005, Diego's situation is also complex. The 38-year-old fighter has suffered five defeats in his last 10 fights, and against Michael Pereira, in February, Sanchez only won because he withdrew from the confrontation after an illegal knee applied by the Brazilian.

After his last commitment, Cerrone assured that he is not thinking about retiring yet. The American, however, confirmed that he needs to clarify some psychological issues that have not allowed him to perform at a high level.

PUBLICITY:

A professional in MMA since 2006, Donald currently has 53 appearances, with 36 wins, 15 losses, one draw and one unsuccessful fight. Sanchez, in turn, has 43 fights, with 30 triumphs and 13 setbacks.
