Justin gaethje can be proud of, as he is one of the few fighters capable of threatening the reign of Khabib Nurmagomedov and is willing to confirm expectations in the UFC 254. For the event, which will be held on October 24th in Abu Dhabi, the interim lightweight champion (70,3kg) ignored the invincibility and dominance of the current number one in the category.
On the contrary, at the press conference, held virtually, Gaethje highlighted the qualities that make him a real danger to the Russian and, in addition to promising to knock him out, his objective is to intimidate Khabib in the octagon.

“My confidence is probably my strong point, along with the power I have and the coach I have. That's a dangerous combination. Anyone can be knocked out. Khabib is a fool if he thinks he can't sleep. I want to end this fight, make Khabib give up. I want him to know that I'm the superior athlete, the superior man. That's the goal of this game. I don't care if I win or lose, as long as my family is happy and proud of my performance. That's what makes me dangerous. I don’t know if he fought anyone like that,” Gaethje said.
Gaethje also made a point of remembering that he has a good history in wrestling and that he has always been known for his quality in defending takedowns and not for attacks.
“I’ve been wrestling my whole life. A big part of wrestling is not being able to let someone take you down and control you. Defense has always been my strong point. I never had offensive wrestling, but they couldn't take me down and I'll deny Khabib's takedowns. It is very important to stay away from the fence and not get knocked over. I don't think I can beat him in wrestling, but I've been constantly working on my defense. You never forget that. If he knocks me down, I'll have to give my life to get out. I have to threaten Khabib to make him hesitate in the next attempt”, he concluded.
It is worth highlighting that it was Justin gaethje that prevented the fans' dream fight, between Khabib Nurmagomedov e Tony Ferguson, of course, when he knocked out the second in May 2020. With that, he became interim UFC lightweight champion and earned the right to challenge the number one in the category.
