In the first fight of UFC Rio 3, Brazil's first victory at the event was controversial. Veteran Cristiano Marcello didn't have an easy time against Reza Madadi. In the first two rounds, the Iranian-born Swede was better, countering the dispute in striking and landing more blows on the Brazilian's face.

Cristiano balanced the dispute in the third round, but, despite punishing Madadi a lot, he was unable to finish the dispute. In the judges' decision, however, two of the three judges saw the superiority of the Brazilian, who won his first in the UFC, in a split decision (29×28, 28×29, 29×28)
