Fueled by victory at UFC Las Vegas 11, Chimaev eyes fight against Demian Maia and champions

Swede achieved his third UFC victory in three fights and feels ready to face the biggest names in the sport

It only took 17 seconds and two blows to Khamzat Shimaev shocking the MMA community once again. The Swede faced Gerald meerschaert, UFC Las Vegas 11, an event held on Saturday (19), in the USA, and was unaware of a much more experienced opponent.

The lightning knockout applied by 'Borz' earned him another performance bonus and, in the post-show press conference, Chimaev exuded confidence about his future. The Swede thinks that Meerschaert was not prepared for a fight like this and not only denied that it was a new version of Khabib Nurmagomedov, lightweight champion (70,3kg), but also believes he is more dangerous.

“I always have the anger to crush someone, knock them out like I did. MMA is a sport and we also have to talk about it. When I looked into his eyes, I knew Gerald didn't want to be in the Octagon with me. I told him that. People say I'm the new Khabib, but I'm a hunter. I can knockout, submit and crush. I can do everything!” said Chimaev.

When asked which category he intends to fight in, the Swede stated that he will continue to move up in weight and assured that he is capable of dethroning Kamaru Usman e Israel adesanya, welterweight (77,6kg) and middleweight (83,9kg) champions, respectively.

Despite it not being official, Chimaev commented on a possible fight against Demian Maia and praised the Brazilian.

Undefeated in MMA, Khamzat Shimaev He won the nine fights he had in his career via the fast track, six by knockout and three by submission. The athlete, just 26 years old, debuted for the UFC in July 2020, on Ilha da Luta, in Abu Dhabi, and has already competed in three fights for the organization, winning performance bonuses in all appearances. It's worth remembering that, in addition to his achievements, Chimaev's numbers in Dana White's organization are impressive. In the three fights, the athlete was so dominant that he dealt 190 blows and suffered only two.
