Nothing done. The long-awaited fight between Dustin poirier e Tony Ferguson, which could confirm the next challenger for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg.), will not take place in UFC 254, which will be held on October 24th. “The UFC and I have not reached an agreement. I'm not going to fight on October 24th,” said Poirier, in an interview with 'ESPN'.
The confrontation between Poirier and Ferguson was confirmed by the linear champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who, in a post on social media, had praised the event, which would bring big names from the organization.
In recent days, Dustin reported that he was already preparing to face 'Bicho Papão', but would only sign the contract through financial compensation, which, according to the athlete, did not happen.
Former interim champion of the category, Poirier, today, holds 2nd position in the group led by Khabib. Tony is close behind, taking 3rd place.
In his last appearance, Dustin defeated Dan Hooker in one of the best fights of 2020. Ferguson, in turn, was defeated by Justin gaethje, in May, and had an undefeated streak of 12 fights ended. Even so, 'Bicho Papão' remains in a prominent position within the category.
