Defeated by Stipe Miocic on the 15th, in a fight valid for the heavyweight belt, Cormier announced his retirement shortly after the confrontation against the champion. At the time, the 41-year-old athlete made it clear that his ambition is only to play for titles and, as there is no possibility in the short term, there was no longer any point in continuing to play.
In early September, DC contacted Ultimate and asked for his name to be removed from the rankings and also from the list of athletes tested by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency). The request effectively puts an end to the fighter's successful career, which held belts in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg) and in the 120kg division.
With the update in the ranking, athletes such as Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Derrick Lewis e alistair overeem they benefited, as they moved up in the group and put themselves in a good position for a title fight.
Cormier's departure also changed the ranking among the company's best pound-for-pound performers. Justin gaethje, Dustin poirier, Max Holloway, Conor McGregor e Petr yan moved up one position. Robert whittaker e Tony Ferguson two went up.
Interestingly, the new flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg.), Deiveson Figueiredo ended up losing a position with Daniel's departure. The Pará native is now 14th in the group, ahead of only Francis Ngannou, which is the 15rd.
