The Brazilian Peter Munhoz e Frankie Edgar fought a real battle in the main fight of the UFC Las Vegas 7, held this Saturday (22), in the USA, and the favorable result for the North American generated a lot of discussion. After 25 minutes of intense competition, the Brazilian lost in a split decision from the judges. At the post-event press conference, the Brazilian appeared shaken, disagreed with the judges and believes that the fame of the former lightweight champion (70,3kg) may have had an influence.

“Without a doubt, I won the fight. While I was getting some points, my coaches said that of the 21 specialized sites that score fights, 17 gave me the victory. Only four gave to Edgar. His reputation may have influenced the result. I can't say for sure, but when 17 out of 21 sites give me the win, the only thing I think about is reputation. He has a name, he is a legend”, said Pedro.

To justify his position, the Brazilian analyzed the fight and explained that he was the one who sought the fight:

“It wasn’t just the low kicks that hurt Edgar. The jabs too. I chased him for 25 minutes. He knocked me down a few times, but I couldn't stay on the ground. I always looked for the knockout. I don't want to belittle Edgar, who is a great fighter. I respect you, but several times I was close to ending the fight. He's tough and managed to avoid it. In the last two fights I had, my opponents (Edgar and aljamain sterling) were badly injured and were unable to walk.”

Pedro also commented on the future of both him and the executioner, who debuted in bantamweight, and would like a rematch.

“Without a doubt, Edgar can compete with the top guys. He appeared to be healthy, strong, tough, well conditioned and very skilled. He belongs to the top-5. I don't want to lose to fighters with a bad reputation. He's a former champion, but I want fair results. I don't know what my position will be in the rankings. I don't control that system. The press might put me in 20th place and Edgar in first place, against the champion. I just want fair results. I always accept facing anyone. I don't choose opponents. I accept anyone, anytime. I’ll be happy if the UFC schedules the rematch,” he concluded.

Despite the great performance, this was the second consecutive defeat for Peter Munhoz, which should leave the top-5 of roosters. On the other hand, in his debut in the category, the former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, beat an elite athlete and, at 38 years old, is getting closer to another title fight.
