Tyron Woodley confirms fight against Colby Covington for September 19, at UFC 253

The rivalry between Tyron woodley e Colby covingtonFinally, it will be put to the test. Representatives of the welterweight elite (up to 77kg), the former linear and interim champions will meet in one of the main fights of the UFC 253, which takes place on September 19th. The duel should take place in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. The information was confirmed by Woodley on his social networks.

“On September 19th, the Covinton cockroach will be crushed,” Tyron wrote on his Instagram account.

This is not the first time that the UFC has tried to put two of the main names in the group currently led by Kamaru Usman. The combatants were on the verge of facing each other in 2018, when Woodley held the linear belt and Covington the interim one. 'Caos', however, ended up unable to fulfill his commitment due to an injury, giving way to Darren till.

Now, without the title, Tyron was challenged again by Colby after the former champion's defeat to Gilbert Durinho, in May this year. It took months of negotiations until the welterweights reached an agreement for September 19th.

Confessed rivals, the athletes know each other very well. The two used to be training partners on the renowned American Top Team. In 2018, Woodley went public, in an interview with 'The MMA Hour', that he 'tortured' his compatriot in a training session, adding more fuel to the fire in the relationship between them.

While Tyron is coming off a loss to Durinho and is looking for an opportunity to return to the radar for a future title fight, Covington continues to pursue a rematch against Kamaru Usman, to whom he lost in December last year in the fight for the division's linear belt.
