The promise that Daniel Cormier should retire after the end of the trilogy against Stipe Miocic, which takes place this Saturday (15), at UFC 252, in Las Vegas (USA), could be going down the drain. According to the leader of AKA (American Kickboxing Academy), Javier Mendez, DC could end up being convinced to present himself, if he regains the heavyweight belt (up to 120,2 kg.), in a confrontation that could revive an old rivalry in MMA.

“I believe that the winner of the fight between Cormier and Miocic will face Jon Jones, who has already shown interest in fighting at heavyweight. If he had never shown this interest, the story would be different. But 'uncle' Dana (White) will certainly offer a truckload of money, and Cormier won't let this opportunity pass him by. He loves money. I think this fight will happen”, said the coach, in an interview with 'ESPN'.

Although he does not agree with the idea of his pupil continuing to perform at the age of 41, Mendez believes that the experienced UFC president has plans to not lose one of his biggest names.

"I will not lie. I wish he would retire anyway. I know how the system works and I know what makes sense to happen. When Dana says, 'I think so-and-so should retire' or 'I don't think so-and-so should retire,' I know he has something on his mind. In my opinion, this would be the correct decision”, he concluded.

Cormier and Jones were protagonists of one of the biggest rivalries in recent MMA history. The two faced each other on two occasions, for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg.). In both, 'Bones' came out on top. In the second fight (2017), however, after an initial triumph by Jones, the fight ended up having the decision changed to 'no result', after Jon failed the anti-doping test.
