With great opponents on his resume, the North American will be committed to facing one of the organization's great promises, Edmen shahbazyan, this Saturday (1), in Las Vegas (USA). Even though he is aware of the tough commitment, the veteran guarantees that the young man will not have an easy task at the weekend.

“This is definitely the biggest test for him. He's never faced anyone like me. Someone who can match him in speed and strength”, said Derek in an interview with ‘MMA Fighting’.
Even though he is an opponent who does not have celebrity status in mixed martial arts, Brunson understands that he will be exchanging forces with a talent that the organization needs to hone. In this way, the North American sees the confrontation against Edmen as an opportunity to receive a more prominent confrontation in his next commitment.
“He is a great fighter. I definitely need to go out there and set the pace. This fight could lead me to another big fight. They're talking about him as a likely title challenger, just like they said about the last guy I faced (Ian Heinisch) and I kind of took that fame away from him,” said Derek.
When he steps into the Octagon this weekend, Brunson will reach the mark of 28 appearances as a professional in MMA. Current number eight in the category, the 36-year-old American comes from two consecutive victories and seeks to confirm his good form.
At 22 years old, Edmen has less than half as many fights as his rival. The athlete is going into his 12th appearance – fifth in the UFC – and has never tasted defeat.
