One of the biggest names in recent UFC history, Khabib Nurmagomedov resumed training routines. Two weeks after his father's death, Abdulmanap, victim of complications from Covid-19 at the age of 57, the lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) was recorded practicing boxing. Before the family tragedy with his father and martial arts mentor, Khabib was negotiating to fight the long-awaited fight against Justin gaethje, for the unification of the lightweight belt. The confrontation was speculated to take place on September 19, at UFC 253. However, after Abdulmanap's death, the agreement did not materialize.
In a recent interview, Dana White, president of Ultimate, stated that he will not pressure the linear champion to return to the octagon. The 'boss' understands the difficult moment the Russian is going through and will wait until the 'Eagle' is ready for the next step.
On the other hand, Nurmagomedov's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, declared that his athlete will be seen performing in 2020. Despite making Khabib's difficult moment clear, the fighter's representative assured that the champion will not retire.
