Kelvin Gastelum comments on third consecutive UFC defeat: 'I'm embarrassed'

Former challenger for the interim middleweight belt speaks out after the setback he suffered against Jack Hermansson last Saturday

O UFC Fight Island 2, held last Saturday (18), in Abu Dhabi, was crucial to confirm the bad phase of Kelvin Gastelum within the organization. Former challenger for the interim middleweight belt (under 83,9kg), the North American suffered his third consecutive defeat in the organization and commented on the new setback after the show.

“I'm really embarrassed. I apologize to my team, my family, the UFC, Dana White and Mick Maynard. I'm much better than I showed tonight. (…) You may encounter many defeats, but you cannot be defeated. In fact, defeats are important for you to discover who you can rise up and how you can get out of it”, wrote the North American.

Last weekend, Kelvin had the tough commitment of exchanging forces against the dangerous Jack hermansson. The highly anticipated clash, which represented the co-main fight of the night, ended up not delivering what many expected. In the fight, Gastelum ended up making a mistake and was caught in a heel hook less than two minutes into the fight.

After the dispute, Kelvin, who was already at the top of the category, suffered his third consecutive defeat and ended up getting into trouble within the organization.

Hermansson, in turn, recovered from the setback he suffered to Jared Cannonier, in September last year, and asked to face the winner of the clash between Darren till e Robert whittaker, who face each other this Saturday (25).
