UFC featherweight champion, José Aldo will have a new opponent in his next belt defense. The Brazilian, who was initially scheduled to face Erik Koch, will now face the former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at UFC Rio 3, an event that takes place on October 13th, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. But for the Brazilian athlete, changing opponents will not change his game.
In an interview with Esporte Interativo, Aldo reaffirmed the thoughts of his coach, Dedé Pederneiras (remember here), that everything will be fine in the confrontation.
“For me it doesn’t change much. I think it changes more through the game. My whole life I've fought wrestlers, short guys who move well and get into my legs. This time, we were training for a southpaw, from Kickboxing, who was looking for a stand-up fight. The tactical way will change completely. We'll have to find some smaller guys, who are more likely to fight on the ground, but don't worry. Let's train because everything will be fine”, said Aldo, who commented on the change of opponent and expectations for the duel.
“UFC Rio will gain a lot from this. The fans will benefit a lot, everyone wanted to see this fight. So the time has come,” he stated. “He (Edgar) is lowering for the first time, but he is top, he was already champion of the top category. Now the time has come, we will train and we will definitely win”, concluded the champion.
