Bellator is close to making the rematch between Lyoto Machida and Phill Davis for September 11th. The organization's idea is for the athletes to star in the card, without a defined location, and repeat the confrontation that took place in August 2013, when the North American emerged victorious on points in the event held in Rio de Janeiro. If the duel is confirmed, Lyoto will have his fourth fight since moving to Bellator in December 2018. In three appearances, the Brazilian emerged victorious in two, but was defeated in the rematch against Gegard Mousasi, in September of last year.
Like Machida, Davis also transferred from Ultimate to competition. The American has been wearing the organization's gloves since September 2015. Phil went on to win the company's light heavyweight belt in November 2016, when he defeated Liam McGeary. The athlete, however, lost his position in his first defense, being beaten by Ryan bader In this ocasion.
Having turned 42 in May, Lyoto still dreams of winning a belt with the new organization. In September, the former UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) will reach the mark of 36 commitments in his successful career as a professional in MMA.
Seven years younger than the Brazilian, Davis is going for his 28th appearance in mixed martial arts. The American comes from two knockout victories in Bellator, both in 2019.
Bellator will resume its activities on July 24th. The company had interrupted its calendar due to the pandemic and had not promoted a card since February this year.
