Responsible for leading, together with Kamaru Usman, one of the most profitable cards in Ultimate history, Jorge masvidal did not give up on the idea of becoming welterweight champion (up to 77kg). Defeated by the Nigerian in UFC 251, the North American asked the organization for an immediate rematch and ruled out, for now, superfights against Conor McGregor or any other rival.

“Could they (UFC) offer me bigger names that would pay me more? Yes. But if I could choose, it would be Usman. I accepted the fight six days before and no one else did,” said Jorge in an interview with 'Ariel Helwani's MMA Show'.
In recent months, Masvidal has been immersed in a public financial war with the UFC. The athlete questioned the amounts paid for his performances and refused to fight for the established values. If I make the right decisions like I have done so far, I will have money forever. So, it's not about the money. I’m stubborn and I want that belt”, he explained.
Having presented himself against one of the current big names in Ultimate with little preparation time, Masvidal believes that, with an adequate period of training, he would be able to shock the world and become the new champion. Thus, the North American insisted that the UFC promote a repeat of the clash on the 11th.
“I want to prove that I am better than Usman. I want to fight him again. I know he won the first one. Let’s do it again,” he concluded.
Jorge's wishes, however, may not be fulfilled. Right after the UFC 251, the company's president, Dana White, stated that Durinho will be the next challenger for the welterweight belt. Diagnosed with COVID-19 at the beginning of this month, the Brazilian is awaiting full recovery to return to training.
