Scheduled to defend the welterweight belt against Matt hugs at UFC 79, on December 29, Matt Serra ended up suffering a back injury (herniated disc in the lower back) during training and is off the card. “This is one of the hardest things I've had to do. I've never had a back injury before. I barely made it off the exam table. There's no way I can train. I'm devastated, especially because it's such an important fight. I was eager to face Matt hugs and all the training had been phenomenal so far. Now all I can do is improve and get back to fighting as soon as possible,” Serra told the official UFC website.
With the cancellation of the fight between Matt Serra and Matt hugs, all the UFC's main attention will be focused on the fight between Wanderlei Silva and Chuck Liddell. The already confirmed attraction is the dispute between the Brazilian Lyoto Machida and Cameroonian Rameau Sokoudjou.
