“At 11 am today, while losing weight on schedule, I suffered an intestinal crisis and intense pain that I had never felt before. We called the UFC doctors who discovered severe constipation, unrelated to my weight loss, and stopped me from continuing to dehydrate, causing me to be over the category limit (bantamweight). I almost left the fight, however, thanks to the UFC's care and effectiveness, I was treated and I'm better, now focused on recovering to put on a show tomorrow,” the Brazilian wrote on her Instagram account.

“Defeat is never good, however, it is the best form of learning we can have in life. It's taking a little from here and there, improving what we already know how to do. We will always do this, but, in defeat, we go deeper”, said the fighter.

Excitement for presentation on ‘Ilha da Luta’

A professional in MMA for almost 10 years, Vanessa understands the importance of participating in a spectacle of the magnitude of UFC 251. In addition to three title fights, Ultimate promoted the return of athletes who do not reside in the United States to return to work. The action makes the event even more important.

“(It’s the most important moment of my career), because it’s historic. I was very honored to be asked to fight on this card. When Dana White started talking about the ‘Island’, everyone was like: ‘Really?’. When I found out it would be in Abu Dhabi, I said: ‘Wow!’. When I saw the card, I thought: ‘My God, what a fantastic card’. I’m very honored to fight on a card with people I’m a fan of,” he confessed.

Fight a compatriot

Despite the excitement of appearing on one of the most eye-catching cards in recent years, Melo will be committed to fighting against a Brazilian athlete. Showing respect to her opponent, Vanessa stated that the fight will not be personal.

“It’s our job. We understand that, one time or another, it will happen. I think the public understands this too. We end up avoiding fighting Brazilians, but when it happens, we can't say no. I respect the entire team Karol Rosa. The fight is over, it's over. Life goes on,” he said.

Challenge against Rosa

Coming from two defeats, to win, Vanessa will have to end a streak of three wins by Karol, who debuted for the organization in August last year with a positive result over Lara Procopio. Analyzing her rival, Melo understands that she needs to be prepared for any situation within the confrontation that promises to be very busy.

“We never know how the fight will go. We end up thinking one way and, sometimes, something else happens. We always have to focus on everything”, declared the Brazilian.

Expectations for the first victory in the UFC

Asked how she would visualize a perfect result this weekend, Melo preferred not to take any risks. The São Paulo native, however, expressed her desire to win and described the feeling she will have if her arm is raised at the end.

“Every athlete goes to win. When victory comes, it is the greatest happiness in the world”, he concluded.
