Lyoto refuses Jon Jones and Vitor Belfort fights for the light heavyweight belt at UFC 152

Everything changed again! After the news of this Thursday (23), when UFC 151 had been canceled due to injury to Dan Henderson and the Brazilian Lyoto Machida would fight for the light heavyweight belt against Jon Jones At UFC 152, there was another twist in the case.

Lyoto did not accept the duel against Jones on September 22nd, due to lack of time to prepare, so the organization was forced to call up the Brazilian Vitor belfort for the clash that returns the light heavyweight division after five years.

With this opportunity, Vitor will have the chance to regain a title that was once his. Belfort was light heavyweight champion in 2004, when he defeated the legend Randy Couture at UFC 46. However, seven months later, the Brazilian ended up losing the title to the same Couture, via technical knockout.

Belfort's last fight in the light heavyweight category took place in September 2007, against James Zikic. On that occasion, the “Phenomenon”, as he is known, won the fight by the judges' decision and won the now-defunct Cage Rage belt.

With Belfort's confirmation at UFC 152, the North American Alan belcher is provisionally left without an opponent at UFC Rio 3, an event that takes place on October 13th, in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, and a new opponent should be announced in the coming days.
