The second defense of the junior gypsy was made official by Ultimate. The Brazilian will put his heavyweight title on the line at UFC 155, the last event of 2012, scheduled to take place on December 29th, in Las Vegas, in the United States. Cigano's opponent will be the North American Cain Velazquez. The announcement puts an end to speculation that the Dutchman alistair overeem, even suspended for doping until December 26th, would be chosen to face Cigano.

Velasquez and Cigano have already faced each other in Ultimate, precisely in the duel that marked the Brazilian's title win. In the fight that marked the debut of the UFC's partnership with FOX, in December 2011, junior gypsy showed the power of his boxing to surprise the then champion with a sequence of blows and knock out Cain just over 64 seconds into the fight.
