Without rivals, Amanda Nunes considers retirement: 'I've already achieved everything I wanted'

Owner of two UFC belts, with 11 consecutive victories and several broken records, the Lioness is considering hanging up her gloves, but not leaving MMA

Undefeated since 2014, with 11 consecutive victories, two belts and a collection of records. With all this, what Amanda nunes Could you still aspire to MMA? Maybe nothing. The 32-year-old Bahian woman surprised by revealing that she is already thinking about hanging up her gloves at the height of her career.

The Lioness revealed, in an interview with the Combate channel website, that she has already achieved all her professional goals and is considering retirement as a real possibility.

“I'm getting old (laughs). I don't know, I've already achieved everything I wanted. There's really nothing to do in the category right now. The UFC is going to put some fights on there, the girls are going to have to fight to get to the top so they can fight with me. But I'm really thinking – I don't want to put my foot in it. I'm going to talk, talk to Conan and Dan (Lambert, owner of ATT), but I'm fine, you know? I'm ready to fight, I'm ready to retire... Let's see...”, said Amanda.

The Lioness revealed that her concern about the work of remaining champion even interferes with her moments of rest. If she ends up hanging up her gloves, however, Amanda doesn't want to stay away from the fights.

“I'm already reaching that moment where I want to enjoy it a little more. When I travel to Brazil I have to travel counting when I have to return. I want to be able to go and rest, and not have to worry about having to return. I know I have to return here, but it doesn't have to be under pressure, right? I can move on with my life. Maybe a new stage, finding new talents, helping some girls, and maybe being a coach too. I think I can help girls and boys a lot too, but the focus will definitely be more on helping girls achieve their goals. I believe that I can help a lot, especially because I know what goes through a fighter’s mind, especially a woman”, he added.

Amanda Nunes' career

Amanda nunes, 32 years old, has a professional record of 20 wins and four losses. The Bahian, from Pojuca, debuted in the octagon at UFC 163, in August 2013. On that occasion, she beat Sheila Gaff by technical knockout and became the first Brazilian to win in the biggest MMA organization in the world.

The setback to Zingano cat, in September 2014, was the only one within Ultimate. After that, she amended triumphs over: Shayna Baszler, Sara McMann e Valentina Shevchenko.

But in just 51 seconds, Amanda knocked out the Curitiba native in the co-main fight of UFC 232, in December 2018. With the result, Nunes became the first female champion of two categories in the UFC.

The Brazilian returned to featherweight in 2019 and defended her reign against Holly holm e Germain de Randamie. Already in UFC 250, held on the 6th, Amanda hit Felicia spencer and retained the featherweight belt. The new victory made the Bahian woman the first person to simultaneously be champion of two UFC divisions and defend her titles in both categories.
