Woodley speaks out after defeat to Durinho: 'I have a strange peace'

North American regrets setback, but says he did his best and says he will return stronger

Last Saturday (30), Gilbert Durinho achieved the biggest victory of his career by beating former welterweight champion (77kg.), Tyron Woodley, and reach the top of the category. After the setback, the North American broke his silence and stated that he was at peace with the negative result, as he believes he did his best against the Brazilian.

“I'm feeling a strange peace for someone who just got their ass kicked. It's not about losing to Gilbert. He arrived, did his part and, at the end of the day, it wasn't like the fight against (Kamaru) Usman, when it seemed like I wasn't there. I was there, I was responding. I listened to what my coaches were saying. I just couldn't touch it. I can accept a defeat when I was present with body and soul,” said the American in a video on his Instagram account.

This weekend's clash marked Tyron's return to the octagon after more than a year away from the sport. The athlete has not performed since losing the champion position to Kamaru, in March of last year. Even with the negative result, the former number one stated that the work was done for the confrontation against Niteroi.

“I have no excuses. I trained hard. She was in great shape. I felt like I did everything right. Everything was fine. I looked into his eyes and knew he was ready to fight. I thought everything was fine,” he said.

Regarding his future in the UFC, the 38-year-old fighter limited himself to saying that he will perform again. Aware that he remains one of the main names in the division, Tyron wants to remain in the sport.

“Unfortunately, the victory did not come. I will continue with my head held high and I will return, because I am a champion”, he concluded.
