This is only the fourth fight since Durinho decided to return to the welterweight division. With imposing performances, it didn't take long for the Niteroi native to get closer to the top of the division and, with his sixth consecutive victory, the fighter arrived once and for all to haunt the reign of Kamaru Usman.

The clash against Gilbert marked Tyron's return to the octagon more than a year after his last appearance. In 2019, Woodley was beaten by the current champion and lost the category belt.

At the end of the match, Durinho showed respect to the current champion, but requested an opportunity to play for the division title.

PUBLICITY:

“I love the champion, Kamaru Usman. He's my teammate, but I want to fight for the title. I have a lot of respect for you, Kamaru, but I deserve it. He beat the champion, I just beat him, so give me that chance! I can fight in July”, said the Brazilian in an interview after the fight.

The fight

The confrontation began with Woodley taking the initiative with a right 'bomb' into the void. The American tried to find distance with jabs. Gilbert responded quickly and managed to take down the former champion with an uppercut. The Brazilian went up and tried to settle the bill, but Tyron resisted. From above, the Niteroi native continued hitting his opponent's face, who was already bleeding from his eyebrow. Halfway through the round, Durinho still had the advantage and Woodley protected himself as best he could. After trying for a submission, Gilbert got distracted and the American managed to get up. Standing, the Brazilian continued walking forward, while Tyron bet on counterattacks. The Niteroi native continued to be better in the confrontation and cornered the North American until the timer ran to zero.

The fight returned with Woodley throwing a good sequence of punches at the Brazilian, who defended himself. More aggressive, the American connected with a straight shot that exploded in Gilbert's face. The Niteroi native, however, remained active in the confrontation and moved forward throughout. Halfway through the round, the Brazilian risked a cross and then managed to land a nice takedown on his opponent. Durinho continued scoring with blows from top to bottom. Just like in the first stage, the former champion managed to get up and the duel began to be fought in the clinch. The round ended with the welterweights performing on the bars.

In the third round, the athletes started by dividing the center of the octagon and betting on jabs. Woodley surprised the Brazilian with a straight shot to the face and the Niteroi native responded with a low kick. Gilbert shook his opponent with a sequence of jabs and straight shots. Durinho was once again frightening with a cross that grazed the former champion's face. The Brazilian continued chasing his rival, who lowered his guard to provoke the Niteroi native. In the final seconds, Durinho launched a series of low kicks and tried to hurt his opponent's legs, but there was no more time.

In the penultimate round, Tyron tried a cross, but the Brazilian dodged and attempted a takedown. The North American defended himself well and the confrontation began to be played against the fences. Gilbert managed to get away and continued attacking Woodley. The Brazilian continued to shorten the distance and force his opponent to walk backwards. Halfway through the round, the Niteroi native managed to connect a good sequence of punches, which shook the former champion and forced him to enter the clinch. Gilbert remained superior in the confrontation and, from top to bottom, attacked the American. In the final seconds, Durinho attempted a choke, but the assault ended.
