Former challenger to the category title in 2018, the athlete believes that a confrontation between him and his former tormentor, the champion Stipe Miocic, it would be an easier fight than a possible fight against Daniel Cormier.

“Honestly, I'm more confident in a rematch with Stipe than a fight with Cormier. I think Cormier is a bigger challenge than Stipe. I shared the octagon with Miocic (in January 2018) and he couldn't submit me. If it was DC, he would have finished me. I was delivered. I couldn't move and Stipe still couldn't end the fight. Even though he is certain that a confrontation against the current champion could be a better challenge, analyzing his technique and fighting style, Francis does not minimize his ability to defeat Daniel in a possible challenge. Even showing respect to the former number one, Ngannou stated that he envisions a triumph over the sports icon.
“I would be very happy to fight Cormier. He needs the trilogy with Stipe for his retirement fight. So I'm not challenging. However, he himself said he would face me. It would be an honor. I see myself leaving the octagon with my hand raised,” he concluded.
After spending almost a year without an opponent, Francis returned to the Octagon in UFC 249, on May 9, when he exchanged forces against the 'giant' and promising, Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Faced with an opponent who was undefeated in his career, Ngannou took no notice and delivered a brutal knockout in the opening seconds of the fight.
