Khabib confirms that his father was diagnosed with COVID-19: 'The virus seriously affected his heart'

UFC lightweight champion informs that Abdulmanap's health condition remains delicate and raises awareness again about the dangers of the disease

The UFC lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg), Khabib Nurmagomedov, confirmed that his father, Abdulmanap, was diagnosed with COVID-19. Hospitalized since the end of April, in Russia, the coach and mentor of the 'Eagle' continues to be in a delicate state of health. The information was released by the athlete in a live video on his 'Instagram'.

“The virus has seriously affected his heart since he had surgery a year ago,” said the champion.

Realizing the seriousness of his father's case, Khabib, who has publicly declared the importance of taking care of himself in the face of a worrying pandemic scenario, once again spoke about the dangers of the coronavirus. The disease has already claimed thousands of lives around the world and continues to confirm one of the biggest health crises in history.

“A lot of people I know have died. Family members who are close to me. The virus affects everyone. He doesn't ask for your last name, or first name. It doesn't ask where you work, whether you are rich or poor. Everyone is affected. We can only overcome this together,” said Nurmagomedov.

Abdulmanap felt unwell at the end of April, when he was spending time in the mountains of Dagestan (Russia). The coach ended up admitted to a local hospital with suspected pneumonia, but, after his condition worsened, he was transferred to a medical center in Moscow, where, according to information from 'RT Sports', he was in a coma for the last week. Information about a possible diagnosis of COVID-19 had not been confirmed until the Ultimate athlete's speech.

Khabib's father's situation mobilized fans, UFC members and even his great rival, Conor McGregor, who sent a message of support to the lightweight champion and his family, asking for prayers for Abdulmanap.
