Eight months have passed since the last performance of Edson Barboza by Ultimate. After a recent negative record among welterweights (up to 77kg.), this Saturday (16th), the Friborg native will make his debut at featherweight (up to 65,7kg.) and hopes to continue haunting his opponents as he did in the top division. In a conversation with the press, the athlete spoke about what motivated him to make the change and also about his expectations for the new challenge.

“I came down because I worked for the UFC for almost 10 years and needed a new challenge in my career and for myself. I made a choice together with my team and I think it is the best choice for new challenges”, said Barboza.

Although he did not compete for the lightweight belt in Ultimate, Edson was always among the division's elite and was considered one of the most feared opponents in the division. The fighter, however, felt the need for changes, as he faced the best names in the group.

“I don’t continue at lightweight because they don’t face me in the division. I always hope to face all the best lightweights, but it's difficult. At featherweights, it's something new. I didn't face anyone. So I'm very excited. It feels like a fresh start for me,” he concluded.

This Saturday, the Brazilian will face the current number 15 in the group ranking, Dan Ige. A positive result would officially place the Friburguenses among the best in the category and would be the first step towards the top of the division, which is currently dominated by Alexander Volkanovsky.

Fatal change? Makhachev ignores warning and could end tragically at welterweight!
