The Brazilian Glover Teixeira is one step away from returning to the top 5 in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg.). The athlete, who faces Anthony Smith, this Wednesday (13), in Jacksonville (USA), knows that a positive result will place him in a great position in the group led by Jon Jones. The Minas Gerais native, however, knows that, to reach a title fight, he will be able to face another fighter beloved by his fans: Thiago Marreta. In an interview with journalist Laerte Viana, exclusively to SUPER FIGHTS, Teixeira spoke what he thinks about the situation.

“No (there would be a problem). O Thiago Marreta He's a good guy. I'm rooting for the guy a lot, except if he fights me. Of course. I rooted for him against Jon Jones (July 2019), I even thought he won the fight”, said Teixeira.

Glover then stated that a possible Brazilian duel would not be fueled by personal problems. According to the Minas Gerais native, respect for his compatriot will always exist and the commitment would only be professional.

“If I fought Marreta, it would be a pleasure. Sledgehammer is at the top. I have no problem fighting Brazilians, Americans or anyone else, because that's the sport. We have to see this as professionalism”, he concluded.

Without fighting since his defeat to Jones in July, when he lost to the American in the title fight, Marreta, who was recovering from surgeries on both knees, already seems to have a target for his return. In a recent statement, the athlete stated that his dream return would go against Dominick reyes on a card headed by 'Bones' against Jan Blachowicz. The winners would later face each other for the title.

Glover, in turn, is trying to displace the current number three in the rankings to get closer to the challengers for Jones' position. The Minas Gerais native, today, comes from three consecutive victories and is looking for the 33rd of his career as a professional in MMA.
