Although he is not going through a good phase within the division, Formiga is still at the top of the category and needs to regain his winning path to return to the organization's radar and, consequently, win the chance to compete for the belt. To achieve this, the Brazilian, however, will be committed to ending a streak of two consecutive victories by his rival, who is not yet in the category's ranking.

Last year, the Potiguar was close to getting a chance to play for the division title. The athlete, however, ended up defeated by Joseph Benavidez, which ended up later facing Deiveson Figueiredo for the belt vacated by Henry Cejudo.

So far, the flyweight division remains without a champion. In the dispute that took place in February this year, for UFC Norfolk, Deiveson ended up beating Benavidez, but was unable to take the title due to failing to make the weight for the card.
