Light weight (up to 70,3kg.) Justin gaethje surprised when he stated that Ultimate did not inform him that he would be scheduled to face Tony Ferguson after canceling the UFC 249, which would take place on April 18th. The athlete said he was dissatisfied with the company's management for not acting clearly regarding his presence in the show that could mark the return of the organization's activities even during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“I saw that Dana (White) said we were going to have a card on May 9th and I was in the main event. I thought: 'What do you mean?'. I always told them that I don't want a fight with a short training period. I don't blame them, but they understood that, because I agreed to fight on April 18th, it would be ok to perform on May 9th. But these are different circumstances for me, so that doesn't make me happy,” Justin said in an interview with 'ESPN'.
In April, Gaethje had accepted the challenge of replacing the division champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, in the fight against Tony Ferguson. At the time, the fighter was promised that he would compete for the interim title in the category. However, the card ended up being postponed due to the pandemic.
So far, the UFC has not confirmed the May show. However, information is circulating behind the scenes at MMA that the company is close to announcing a show in Florida (USA), in the city of Jacksonville. The promotion of the event would be possible due to a government decree, which allowed WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) fights behind closed doors to the public. The permission could include mixed martial arts performances under the same conditions.
