UFC 148: Anderson Silva knocks out Chael Sonnen and silences rival

Anderson Silva chastises Chael Sonnen on the ground to defend the UFC belt.

It took almost two years to wait for Anderson Silva, once again, to show that he is the best middleweight currently. Before Chael Sonnen, the Brazilian recovered from a bad start and defeated the North American by technical knockout in the second round, defending his UFC middleweight belt. The fight was the main fight of UFC 148, an event held this Saturday (07), in Las Vegas, in the United States.

The show's fight program also featured four more Brazilians in action, who left the octagon with two wins and two losses. Rafaello Tractor e Demian Maia they beat Dong Hyun Kim and Yoislandy Izquierdo. But Gleison Tibau and Fabrício Morango were surpassed by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Melvin Guillard, respectively.

Anderson knocks out and shuts up Sonnen
If the wait was almost two years, the fight lasted little more than eight minutes. The loudmouth Chael Sonnen He even started well and dominated the fight in the first round, when right at the beginning of the dispute he closed the distance and took down Anderson. From then on, the American punished Spider for five minutes, passing the guard, mounting and throwing punches and even slaps with an open hand.

At the beginning of the second round, Anderson's redemption came. Sonnen tried to take him down again, but Silva managed to defend himself and keep the fight going.

The Brazilian showed his usual confidence and, just like in the first fight, he lowered his guard, receiving punches from his opponent. But when Sonnen tried a spinning punch, Anderson dodged brilliantly and Chael fell to his seat.

With his opponent on the ground, Anderson threw a knee to the American's body, followed by several punches until the referee stopped the fight.

“Let's show him that Brazil has educated people, let's applaud the guy too”, said Anderson, hugging Sonnen and asking the local public. And he even teased his rival: “if you want to go to a barbecue at my house, feel free”.

In turn, Chael, visibly frustrated, recognized Anerson's triumph. “He is a true champion,” he praised.

Tito Ortiz fights well, but retires with defeat

In the last fight of his career, Tito started out ready to say goodbye to the UFC with a victory and right from the start he took down Forrest, landing some blows from the top and controlling the first round well.

Just like in the first round, Ortiz started better and almost knocked out Griffin at the beginning of the second round. Tito threw a right punch, which landed on Forrest's chin, who fell to the ground.

But as time went by, physical preparation took its toll and Griffin began to rise in combat and dominate the fight.

Halfway through the last round, Tito managed another knockdown and came out on top, punishing his opponent, however, once again his physical preparation took a toll and Ortiz became an easy target in the final moments.

Demian Maia debut with victory at welterweight
After a bad moment at middleweight, black belt Demian showed that he can be a handful at welterweight. In his debut in the new category, the Brazilian returned to his roots and soon closed the gap on Dong Hyun Kim, reaching his opponent's back. With his opponent on the belt, Demian looked for the takedown, but the South Korean ended up falling badly and Maia went to mount. From then on, the Brazilian threw some punches and forced the referee to stop the dispute.
