Last Thursday (26th), Jon Jones appeared again in the police pages. The athlete was detained for driving while intoxicated, possessing a bottle of alcoholic beverage and negligent use of a firearm in Albuquerque, in the United States. Expert members also confirmed that the athlete may have used marijuana, as substances similar to cannabis were found on 'Bones' clothes, which is illegal in some North American states. The information was released by 'MMA Junkie'.

Jones was approached by police after authorities heard a gunshot. The officers then found Jon with his car parked and, after approaching, they found that there was a revolver under the driver's side, as well as a projectile outside the car. After analysis, it was found that the bullet matches the model of the object carried by 'Bones'.

According to Jason Brown, the first agent to arrive at the scene of the incident, the UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) had red eyes – which is a sign of marijuana consumption – and, after talking to the fighter, he smelled the odor of alcoholic drink, assuming, then, that the athlete had consumed it. The fighter was then arrested for drunk driving.

Brian Johnson, another police officer who arrived at the scene to assist with the incident involving Jones, wrote about the procedures adopted in the case.

“Jonathan (Jon Jones) performed field sobriety tests and performed poorly on all of them. He also failed two or three alternative tests. He was searched and arrested,” the agent wrote.

Jones was released the same night, but, according to the communications director for the Albuquerque prosecutor's office, Michael Patrick, the champion is expected to appear in court for a hearing to be held on April 8.
