Last athlete to beat Deiveson Figueiredo, Jussier formiga believes he is close to a chance to compete for the UFC flyweight belt (up to 56,7kg). With a fight scheduled against Brando Moreno for the UFC Brasilia, which takes place this Saturday (14), the Brazilian wants to impress and defeat the Mexican to qualify for a future fight for the division title. In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', the native of Rio Grande do Norte spoke about his expectations for the confrontation.

“I don't know what the future will bring, but another good win will certainly put me in a good position for a title challenge,” said the Brazilian.

Jussier was on the front line to fight for the belt in his last commitment, when he exchanged forces against Joseph Benavidez in valid combat for the UFC Minneapolis, in June last year. On that occasion, however, the athlete ended up succumbing to the North American with a knockout in the second round. After beating the Potiguar 'Joe' he was scheduled to face Figueiredo for the number one position in the category, which was vacated by Henry Cejudo in December.

As the division still remains without a champion, as Deiveson failed to make the weight cut for the dispute and defeated Joseph, Formiga believes that he can soon repeat the confrontation against his compatriot, whom he beat in a fight valid for the UFC Nashville, in March 2019.

"Deiveson Figueiredo It was a very difficult opponent. He is very dangerous and was undefeated at the time, coming off three consecutive UFC wins. I was able to show him that, once you reach the top 5, everything gets more complicated. I was happy to defeat him convincingly”, said the Brazilian.

Before envisioning a new fight against Figueiredo, who should have a new fight against Benavidez soon, the native of Rio Grande do Norte needs to defeat Brendon. Just over two days before the clash, Jussier showed that he has studied his opponent and hopes to put into practice everything his team has planned for the show.

“He has a Mexican style of fighting, with an emphasis on boxing. He also has good head kicks. He does a little bit of everything, including grappling. It is good. Brown belt in jiu-jitsu. I believe it will be a great challenge. I'm excited and motivated for this fight. I want to defend my place in the rankings and I'm looking forward to fighting again in Brazil, after three years”, he concluded.

Currently, Formiga occupies third place in the division ranking. Moreno, in turn, is in fifth place.
