The Brazilian Gilbert Durinho He is close to making one of the most important commitments of his career. At a great stage, the athlete is committed to Demian Maia in one of the most anticipated fights in the UFC Brasilia, which takes place this Saturday (14). Even focusing on his compatriot, the Niteroi native already envisions his next commitment, if he defeats the São Paulo native this weekend. The athlete thinks about challenging the former challenger for the division title, Colby covington, for a confrontation later this year. The statement was made in an interview with 'BJ.Penn.com'.

“I'm still focused on (Demian) Maia, but I'd really like to get my hands on Colby covington. He talks a lot of nonsense about Brazil and I think it would be a great challenge, after I defeat Maia. I don't like what Colby has been saying about Kamaru (Usman), Brazil and my old manager, Glenn Robinson. I want to get my hands on him sooner or later,” said Durinho.
The Brazilian, however, stated that, if he beats Demian using his jiu-jitsu, there would be no way for the North American to deny an opportunity to carry out the confrontation. As Maia is considered one of the great names in the 'gentle art' who have already migrated to MMA, a triumph over the São Paulo native would put him on a level above other possible rivals for Covington.
“If I finish Maia, he (Colby) has to accept (the challenge). I have my right hand, my jiu-jitsu and I can submit Colby, if we fight”, concluded the Brazilian.
Currently 33 years old, Gilbert has four consecutive victories in his recent record. The athlete is currently in 12th place in the welterweight rankings (up to 77kg), while Demian and Covington occupy 5th and 2nd place, respectively.
