The setback for Vieira prevented Safarov from starting a winning streak. The Russian had won in his last commitment when he defeated Nicolae Negumereanu, in March last year.

After the new achievement, the Brazilian stated that he is ready for any opponent that Ultimate wants to offer him.

“Dana White, can you give me middleweight number 50, because I’m ready,” said Vieira.

The fight

The fight started with Safarov taking the initiative with a jab. The Brazilian continued to look for the best distance to enter the Russian's range of action. A blow from Saparbek shook the Rio native, but Rodolfo soon managed a good takedown and began the transition to the submission. Vieira reached the back and struck his opponent, who defended himself as best he could. The Brazilian then reached the katagatame and forced his opponent to tap out.

Ward of Daniel Cormier, Deron Winn suffered yet another defeat for Ultimate. With a smaller size, the North American had to take risks to get into Gerald Meershaert's range of action. After two balanced rounds, Gerald managed to perform in a superior manner and secured a rear naked choke with two minutes left in the match.

The triumph marked the 31st victory in the North American's record, which erased the defeat suffered in his last appearance, when he was beaten by Erik Anders, in one of the fights of UFC Tampa, in October of last year.

Deron now has two setbacks in three appearances for Ultimate. With eight fights as a professional in MMA, Winn suffered the second negative result in the sport.

José's setback prevented the Mexican from registering his second positive result in a row. The athlete was coming off a victory over Carlo Huachin, in a fight held in September last year.
