There are just over 24 hours left for the world to discover the new UFC flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg). In the main fight of UFC Norfolk, which takes place this Saturday (29), Joseph Benavidez e Deiveson Figueiredo they will exchange forces to determine who will occupy the number one position in the category. In an interview with 'Combate', the North American spoke about his expectations for the confrontation and preached respect for the people from Pará.

“This fight was going to happen at some point. And honestly, I've always looked at him, because I always have my eyes open to the flyweight division, and not just the competitors. When I first saw him, I said, 'That's an exciting fighter.' Figueiredo is aggressive, and he knows what people will like,” said the North American.

Joseph took the opportunity to highlight the flyweight category, which was at risk of becoming extinct in recent years due to the lack of a great representative. However, since Henry Cejudo won the belt by beating Demetrious Johnson, in 2018, the category gained momentum and showed that it still has the capacity to provide entertainment to fans.

Benavidez, who is trying to fill the position vacated by Cejudo (he chose to remain in the bantamweight division, where he is the champion), then spoke fondly about the group he represents.

“I’m a fan of the (flyweight) division. I want everyone of that weight to be successful. When I see a fly on the card, I want him to get the bonus, I want him to have an exciting performance, I want people to talk about it,” said Joseph.

At 35 years old, this will be the third time that the American has tried to win the division's belt. The athlete had his plans frustrated on two occasions, both in setbacks for Demetrious Johnson (2012 and 2013).
