Close to facing Deiveson Figueiredo, Benavidez is not enchanted with the belt: 'Just an object'

North American claims desire to be number one, but reveals feet on the ground about the possibility of being champion

the american Joseph Benavidez is close to having the second opportunity to try to become the flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg.). This Saturday (29), the athlete will try to win the vacant belt by Henry Cejudo in a fight against the Brazilian Deiveson Figueiredo, fur UFC Norfolk. Although he has the ambition of becoming number one in the category, the fighter states that the belt is not a fixture in his career. The statement was made in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

“For me, the best part about winning is hugging my wife afterwards. This is the moment. You can achieve things, but moments are everything. It's more important than anything. Hugging my coach, seeing my fans who have watched me for years. I’m motivated to have more moments like these,” said Joseph.

The North American also states that the belt is not the most important thing in winning. For Benavidez, the belt is nothing more than an item of adornment.

“The belt is just an object,” said the American.

Benavidez earned the right to fight for the title against Deiveson after winning three consecutive victories. In his last performance, the North American won a triumph over the Brazilian Jussier formiga, in one of the fights of UFC Minneapolis.

In this Saturday's clash, Joseph will go for his second title fight. The North American had his first attempt in 2013, when he faced Demetrious Johnson in the main fight of UFC Sacramento.
