Although there are still a few months left before Thiago Marreta returns to the octagon, the athlete is already eyeing his opponent for his next UFC commitment. Responsible for enforcing the Jon Jones one of the biggest challenges of his career, the athlete, however, states that he wants a qualified opponent for the challenge, if he is not given the chance for a rematch against the champion. The statement was made in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

“They want to give me fights that I don’t want. I never rejected a fight, regardless of who it was. But I deserved something and I won't accept less. I won't take a step back. They want to give me something that would represent a setback”, said the Brazilian.
Without fighting for more than seven months, the fighter from Cidade de Deus (RJ), who is recovering from two surgeries on both knees, stated that he received fight offers, but did not want to reveal his opponent, so as not to compromise the offered opponent or the company.
“I can't say his name, because it could get me in trouble, but I was offered someone who isn't in the top 10. I don't think it's fair to face someone outside the top five or six, or someone on the rise. I was very upset when they offered someone who was coming off a defeat. I refused to take a step back”, declared Thiago.
Before the UFC 247, held in February this year, Marreta was considered one of the favorites to face Jon Jones in a rematch for the light heavyweight title (up to 93kg.). However, after the great performance of Dominick reyes against 'Bones', the situation in the division seems to have changed.
In a recent interview, Marreta stated that he hopes to be able to return to the octagon in June this year. In March, the fighter should return to training normally.
