Jon Jones suffered, but after 25 minutes defeated Dominick reyes in the unanimous decision of the judges (48-47, 49-46, 48-47). The duel was the main attraction of the UFC 247, held this Saturday (08), in Houston (USA). However, for Ultimate's president, Dana White, the result hurt the challenger. According to the boss, Reyes was the first man to beat the light heavyweight champion.

“I scored three (rounds) to one before the last round (for Reyes). And my kids gave me hell after the fight: 'Dad, you have to fix this, Reyes won'. But the reality is that I am not a judge. Nobody here is. I didn’t think the decision was perfect, and we need to work on that”, said White, in a press conference after the show.

Despite not agreeing with the result, Dana White made a mea culpa by saying that he would need to work to improve the quality of judges in Texas. Joe Soliz, who scored a strange 49-46 for Jones, hadn't judged a fight since 2017 and has a very short history in the sport – until UFC 247 he had just 10 fights as a judge in his more than six-year career.

“We need to help improve the judges in Texas – they are not yet used to the big fights in our sport. The committee management here needs to realize the mistakes that are made and the adjustments that can be made. But I spoke to some other people who thought differently about this score and we are not judges”, added White.

History in favor of Jones

The victory over Dominick reyes It is the second consecutive victory with controversial marking in favor of Jon Jones. On UFC 239, in July 2019, 'Bones' also struggled to defeat Thiago Marreta in the judges' split decision (48-47, 47-48, 48-47).

At the time, despite it being the first time that a judge had seen Jon's defeat, Dana White said that the Brazilian had only won one round. The president, at the time, scored Jones' victory by 49-46. However, this time, the manager was emphatic when he saw the champion's setback.
