Since losing the heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic, in August of last year, Daniel Cormier does not hide his frustration at not having yet received the opportunity to rematch his compatriot. Close to 41 years old, DC confirms that he may retire from mixed martial arts if the company does not confirm the trilogy against his last tormentor. The statement was made in an interview with 'Ariel Helwani's MMA Show'.

“You can't wait forever. Every day that passes doesn't benefit me. I'm a realist, I understand that. Either we do it or we don't. When I fight, it will be for the belt or I won't fight. This is not about money. It's about finishing something we started, and also because I know I can beat it”, said the former champion.
Daniel also confirmed that his desire to return to the octagon is solely and exclusively to try to regain his number one position in the division. According to Cormier, no other fight interests him. Therefore, retirement could be imminent if the Ultimate board lacks interest in holding the new confrontation.
“I really wouldn’t want to fight anyone else. At this point, Stipe has the ability to retire me,” she concluded.
Cormier and Miocic have already faced each other on two occasions. In the first, which took place in 2018, Daniel surprised the world by defeating Stipe in his heavyweight debut. The triumph placed Cormier as division champion, dethroning his opponent.
Just over a year later, Miocic had the chance to regain his title, and he didn't fail. After being dominated for three rounds, Stipe changed his strategy and turned the fight around by achieving a beautiful knockout over DC in the fourth round.
Since then, speculation about a new confrontation between the athletes has emerged. However, there are confirming signs at the moment.
