“Over the past six months, I have been paying a lot of attention to the idea of retirement. Today is the day I officially say goodbye to my career of more than 20 years as an athlete. It's not an easy decision to make, especially when a competitive life is all I've ever known. I'm not sure what the title of the next chapter will be, but I know one thing for sure: I'm not going to spend any more time involved in something that my heart isn't 100% involved in. I spent over a year in the UFC where this was the case,” wrote the light heavyweight.
Patrick didn't forget about the fans. The former Ultimate made a point of thanking his enthusiasts for their support throughout the years of competition.
“One group of people I left out are my fans. I have been able to do extraordinary things with your moral support. In good times, and especially in bad, many of you have achieved with motivation or praise over the years that I have never been able to understand. So I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I don't think anyone can look back and be completely satisfied with their career, but one thing I wouldn't change for anything is the unique group of incredible fans I've managed to curate. I love you too”, concluded the American.
Throughout his career, Cummins faced several respected athletes, such as Rogério Minotouro, Glover Teixeira, Jan Blachowicz, Corey anderson and the former category champion, Daniel Cormier.
In total, the athlete competed in 17 fights, recording 10 wins and seven losses. In the last two years, the fighter has gone through difficult times in his career, suffering three defeats in a row, which influenced his decision to abandon the sport at the age of 39.
