Alexander Volkanovski projects rematch with Max Holloway: 'He deserves it'

Responsible for ending the Hawaiian's reign, the Australian aims for a new duel against the former champion

The Australian Alexander Volkanovsky was responsible for one of the biggest upsets of UFC245, held last Saturday (14). After safe and competent performance, the athlete overcame Max Holloway and won the featherweight title (up to 65,7kg.) in a unanimous decision by the judges. The new champion, however, showed respect to his rival this weekend and guaranteed that he intends to give his opponent a rematch soon. The information was released at a press conference after the show.

“I think he deserves (the rematch). Do I have to beat him to prove I'm a better fighter? I think we had five rounds for this and I'm pretty sure I won pretty clearly. Anyway, people still have doubts, but I will be ready for it”, said the Australian.

Although he was superior against an opponent with undeniable talent, Alexander guarantees that he will work to improve his qualities as an athlete.

“I will be better prepared next time. We know how everything works. We will prepare even better. He may think he will discover me again, but I am very powerful. They go one way, I go the other,” he concluded.

after the UFC 245, Dana White, president of Ultimate, revealed that a new duel between the fighters is already in the plans for next year. According to the agent, the idea is to repeat the fight at an event in Australia.
