The fighter from Cidade de Deus (RJ) states that the priority would be to return to the octagon in a rematch against Jon Jones. However, Marreta states that, if it is not possible, he would not bother, as his good performance against 'Bones' guaranteed him number one in the ranking.
“Let’s see what the UFC will offer me. If Ultimate puts me up to fight for the title, that's fine, because I'll fight again at 100% of my capacity. So for me, it doesn't matter. If I need to have a fight before (going back to work for the belt), that's fine too. I'm hungry to fight again. I'm so excited to fight again, it doesn't matter if it's for the belt or not”, concluded Thiago.
Marreta gained worldwide fame after being the athlete who imposed the greatest difficulty in a fight against Jones, who has remained undefeated in his career for more than 10 years. The North American is considered, by many, the best MMA athlete of all time.
Marreta, however, doesn't know who the champion will be when he returns to action. Jon has an appointment scheduled against Dominick reyes for February 8th in another title defense.
