Khabib's father on his son's fight against Ferguson: 'Biggest fight in UFC history'

The duel between Khabib Nurmagumedov and Tony Ferguson is close to being made official by Ultimate. Knowing this, the clash, valid for the linear lightweight title (up to 70,3kg.) has been gaining components that place the meeting between the athletes as one of the most important in recent times. According to Abdulmanap, father of the champion, the event will be a historic spectacle and has everything it needs to mark an era. In an interview with 'RT Sport', the 'Águia' coach spoke about the subject.

“As this is not the first attempt (to hold the fight), I think it is one of the most important events in this sport. It was planned four times and canceled twice because of Khabib (Nurmagomedov) and twice because of Tony (Ferguson). Millions of fans are waiting for it. There has never been anything like this in UFC history. It's the most important fight in UFC history. It is important not only for me, but for my republic, my country and all our fans,” said Abdulmanap.

In addition to being a fight for the belt in one of the most competitive divisions in Ultimate today, the clash between the Russian and the North American marks the meeting between two athletes who are at the peak of their physical conditions.

While Khabib remains undefeated in his career, after 28 appearances as a professional in MMA, Ferguson maintains a series of positive results of 12 fights. Tony hasn't known what it's like to lose since May 2012 when he was defeated by Michael Johnson in the unanimous decision of the judges.

After the setback, the North American found his good form again and achieved victory, collecting bonuses for his performances and even winning the interim title of the category in October 2017. The athlete, however, had his belt taken away after being injured and having to step away for recovery.

Although the fight between the two is not yet official, Nurmagomedov's manager, Ali Abdelaziz confirmed, a few weeks ago, that his client has already signed the contract and the fight is scheduled to take place on April 18th.
