NBA icon and former Boston Celtics player Paul Pierce was convicted of defamation after an incident that occurred at UFC 229 in October last year, which marked the fight between Conor McGregor e Khabib Nurmagomedov in the fight for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg.). After the widespread fight caused by the two fighters, Pierce allegedly accused an employee at the T-Mobile Arena (Las Vegas) of racism. The former athlete was sued and subsequently ordered to pay US$100 (around R$412) to Christopher Mostello. The information was released by 'ESPN'.

According to 'TMZ Sports', during the confusion that occurred in the arena after the end of the main fight, Pierce started the confusion and allegedly called Mostello a racist. The situation was recorded on video and, after analysis, the judge responsible for the case recognized that the former player's accusation was unfounded, which resulted in financial punishment for Paul.

According to the employee, the NBA icon appeared altered and aggressive during the discussion. In the process, Christopher stated that he was a victim of public embarrassment and persecution, which culminated in Pierce being summoned to respond to the case in court.

For the sentencing, Paul did not send a defense representative. The case, then, had its decree finalized without the former player trying to argue in favor of it.
