“I say this with all due respect, I have nothing to do with his (Masvidal) sport and I feel the same way about him venturing into mine. Looking from the business side, it's attractive, but it's not a challenge for me. It’s not a priority,” said Canelo.

The athlete started to be challenged by Jorge when the new MMA star defeated Nate diaz in the main fight of UFC 244, valid for the symbolic belt that enshrined the 'Most Thick' in the sport. After a profitable show, Masvidal, who recently stated that he will only act for big numbers, started to call on the icon of the 'noble art' for a fight.

“Canelo is a better boxer and he throws 10 more jabs than me because he dedicates himself to it all the time. So, he is a better boxer. But I can bring elements that are not normally used in legal fights”, said Jorge at the time.

Alvarez, in turn, tried to minimize the chances of a meeting with the UFC fighter. Always speaking with caution, taking care not to disrespect the North American, the boxing champion stated that these are two completely different disciplines and it is complicated to take a risk of this magnitude.

“It’s just money and nothing else. If they really liked boxing, they would have practiced the sport from an early age. I say with all due respect, I like what they do in their sports and they are good athletes there. But, in boxing, it’s a completely different situation”, concluded the star.
