Shevchenko will defend her title again in February, against Katlyn Chookagian, says website

Champion faces first in the ranking in an event taking place in the United States

After defending the flyweight title (up to 56,7kg.) on two occasions, Valentina Shevchenko will return to the octagon on February 8 to try to remain at the top of the category, a position she has held since December 2018. In her new commitment, the champion will face Katlyn chookagian, current number one in the ranking. The information was released by reporter Nolan King, from 'MMA Junkie'.

Chookagian got the right to try to beat the undisputed Valentina after emerging victorious in her last performance, when she beat the Brazilian Jennifer maia No. UFC 244, held at the beginning of November. The fight against the Curitiba native was considered essential so that Shevchenko would know who his future opponent would be.

Katlyn arrives at the contest coming off two consecutive victories. In June, the North American defeated Joanne calderwood, currently third in the ranking.

Champion since the end of 2018, when he beat Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a clash valid for the division's vacant title, Valentina had two fights in 2019. In June, the athlete showed her business card and delivered a brutal knockout to Jessica Eye in his first title defense.

Two months later, the Kyrgyzstani returned to the Octagon to face the experienced Liz Camouche. Once again, Shevchenko showed that, among flyweights, she is above average and defeated her rival by unanimous decision from the judges in a fight that represented the main fight of UFC Uruguay.

With each performance between the flies, Valentina has shown her superiority in relation to her opponents. Champion in the new category, the athlete has not been defeated since she worked in the bantamweight division (up to 61,2kg), a division reigned by Amanda nunes, responsible for Shevchenko's latest setback, in September 2017.

The location of the duel between Valentina and Chookagian has not yet been confirmed, however, news is circulating behind the scenes that it will take place in Houston (USA), valid for UFC 247.

At 31 years old, Shevchenko has already had 21 fights as a professional in MMA. The Kyrgyzstani won on 18 occasions and was defeated on three.

Chookagina, 30, currently has 15 fights, with 13 triumphs and two setbacks.
